The only difference is the new units in BICE have different stats. All other land units, unique or not tend to get used the same way by the AI regardless. Sorry for the negativity, I admire what has been attempted, but I felt a shout out to the Paradox development team is in order, you have got a lot right and please don't feel pressured to follow the example of BI.Ĭlick to expand. The specialised vanilla land units, such as marines, garrisons, and paratroop units retain their vanilla roles in BICE. If there was a way of switching off the emblems and returning to standard counter mode, I would definitely reconsider BI, but if one exist I couldn't find it.
I didn't even want to consider taking on enemy units without some clue whether they are armor or infantry.įor the first time ever I switched to spirit mode, a mode I don't like, but that was even worse, most of the division graphics seemed corrupted, with multiple spirits clinging together. I couldn't play like that and I never even got to the point of contact with the enemy. I had no idea what the core unit was until I double clicked to get the picture up and saw Soldiers and a Truck. However, even that didn't work in some cases, I was looking at an SS unit one time, but I can't read German.
In BI though I had to click on each stack and work out what the divisions were from their component parts. I play in counter mode and I like to know at a glance that I'm looking at - Armor, Cavalry, Infantry, HQs, Militia etc.
Some things I loved about BI, others I didn't like, but the one thing that really ruined it for me was the replacement of the standard Divisional Icons with custom pictures showing the Divisional emblem. Unfortunately, I preferred vanilla HOI3 + TFH and gave up after just one week into my first Black Ice game playing Germany. I have to say I'm impressed by the amount of work that has gone into Black Ice.
